SFAC Poster- With Every Giver

SFAC Poster Project

Summary:

The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) Galleries presented HEROES: San Francisco Thanks Frontline Healthcare Workers, a timely poster series that celebrated and thanked healthcare workers caring for coronavirus patients. This love letter from the arts community featured poster designs from 10 artists and had two components: forty kiosk posters lined Market Street from the Embarcadero to the Castro, reminding residents and visitors that every day, remarkable people in our community care for those who are sick with the coronavirus; smaller reproductions of the kiosk posters were distributed to San Francisco-based hospitals and quarantine sites—posted in various communal spaces and gifted to healthcare workers as tokens of gratitude.

"With Every Giver" highlights the true power that lies within each healer and the significance of their work. The “giver” depicted here works with heart and hands and is armed with African Geranium (traditionally used in respiratory medicine) and the sparrow (symbolizing the power and virtue of the meek). She is anointed by the ancestors and crowned by those whose lives she touches. In turbulent and hate-filled times, it is important to recognize that the protectors of the vulnerable—the givers and the healers—are the preservers of humanity and the architects of a just and safe society.
